My Biggest Makeovers of 2024! {And Plans for 2025.}

Top DIY projects and makeovers of 2024! 

I’ve gathered my biggest DIY makeovers completed in 2024 and what I hope to accomplish this year! 

This is always a fun post to write, as it makes me feel super accomplished after a VERY lazy Christmas break. 🙂 I tackled a bunch of big projects last year and am super proud of what I created. 

1. Linen closet redo 

Since it’s the season of decluttering and organizing, let’s start with the closet that was a huge pain in my butt for years: 

SO much better! I added a pretty touch to the back wall with some leftover wallpaper. It’s a sweet hint of color when you open the door. 

2. Main bedroom makeover

The dark gray paint color I painted our bedroom years ago was proving to be difficult to work with, so I had an idea to brighten things up: 

The thing was, I didn’t want to remove the grasscloth wallpaper I had installed on most of the walls. We still liked it and I knew that would be way more work to remove. 😉 

After a few more DIY projects (painted dresser and DIY TV frame), the makeover was complete: 

These changes made such a big difference! This room is SO much brighter and fresh feeling now: 

The ceiling may be a project for this year!

3. Brightening up the dining room 

Our dining space is another area that was feeling heavy…so I lightened things up a bit. I LOVE the deep blue paint color (called Cyberspace) I used in here: 

But the room was feeling closed in…I knew a lighter color would open it up. 

4. Basement bar/kitchenette build 

Last year I finally finished up a room I built from the floor up: 

This was an unfinished spot in our basement that was meant to be a kitchenette. We thought we’d get to it pretty quickly after moving in years ago, so we didn’t even have carpet installed in that area. 

5. Painted trim to match the walls 

I painted all of the door and window trim with a semi gloss paint and we LOVE the color drenched look: 

6. Office/library project 

I still have a bit to do in here, but it’s super close. It looks finished at first glance, so that’s a win. 😉 

Now my plans for this year! 

1. First up, I obviously need to get the office completed. 

Here’s my to-do list!

• Finish the molding installation and paint. 
• Line my drapes to beef them up a bit. 
• Redo my little printer table. I’d love to try taking it down to bare wood to stain it, but it has a ton of detail so I’ll have to think on that:
  

2. Bathroom makeover. 

I’ve been wanting to tackle our basement bathroom FOREVER. I had plans to start it last year, but then the kitchenette/bar took like three years to complete. 😆

My plans for this space: 

• I’d really like to change out the floor tile. It won’t really go with the look I’m planning for this room, but tearing out tile is a MESS and replacing it is not much fun either. We’ll see what happens…if I do change it out it would be the first step in this makeover. 
• The walls are going to be dark and moody…which will fit in perfectly with our cozy basement. I have a fun mural planned for the long wall behind the door. 
• I’d like to replace the sink cabinet, maybe with something freestanding like this vanity with brass legs. But man, they are so expensive!! 
• We use the storage space under the current vanity, so if I do change it out I’ll need to create storage somewhere to make up for that. 
• New, chunkier baseboards and crown molding with finish this space up! 

3. Address the storage areas in our home. 

We are SO lucky to have plenty of closets and storage areas in our house! It just bugs me that they don’t function as best as they can. 

My first spot is the nook in our basement where I’ve stored our home decor items, hardware and candles…things like that: 

• The first step was a HUGE declutter. I kept a lot of these items for years knowing I may want to use some of them in specific places like our basement bar shelving, or my office built ins. But now most of those projects are finished up, so I don’t need/want most of what is left. 
• I’ve been hard at work on that already and about 60 percent of the items in that photo are gone. It feels SO good to decrapify!! I’ll be updating more about that soon. 
• I’d like to drywall over the insulation — not even sure I’ll tape or mud. Just closing up the walls will do wonders in here (and prevent the insulation from getting stuck on everything). 
• I want to create permanent shelving instead of the plastic units. Deeper shelves up against the walls will give us more space and be easier to access.
