Belgian flooring technology leader Unilin has received a patent for its PET-based flooring products. The patent (US 18/450,106) covers flooring products manufactured using PET polymers, including PETG and R-PET, incorporating the company’s proprietary locking system.

The technology, marketed as “P-SPC” (PET-based Solid Polymer Composite), offers manufacturers a PVC-free alternative that maintains the familiar characteristics of traditional SPC (Solid Polymer Composite) flooring products.

“We’re excited to see this new technology making its way into the flooring market, as it offers manufacturers and distributors a distinctive, sustainable, and PVC-free alternative,” said Floris Koopmans, sales and marketing director at Unilin Technologies.

The patent will be available exclusively through Unilin’s licensing program, allowing manufacturers to produce PET-based flooring using the company’s technology. The new products are compatible with all traditional Unilin locking technologies and can be finished with various top layers, including PETG, melamine, and digitally printed surfaces.
