Skinny Shaker – A softer contemporary kitchen cabinet door style

“Skinny Shaker” or “Slim Shaker” are slab door styles with outside corner molding framing the door.

Cabinet dealers have coined the names Skinny Shaker and Slim Shaker for this door style that has become very popular over the last 12 months. First introduced by Fabuwood and some of the less expensive semi-custom cabinet brands, Skinny Shaker is now popular in all the brands we carry – even the highest priced custom cabinetry. This is probably because these doors approach a contemporary style but in a softer and not ultra modern way.

The slim shaker door style is created by adding an outside corner molding around the perimeter of a slab door style, like the example below.

The Fabuwood Skinny Shaker door style called Luna is below in the colors Timber and Indigo. The Fabuwood web site describes the style this way:

With smooth finishes, the Luna line makes quite the impression creating a polished look with a modern flair. The line offers an impressive minimalistic masterpiece with enduring appeal.

Much like a shaker door style can transition between contemporary and traditional styles, the skinny shaker style transitions between contemporary and shaker.

Main Line Kitchen Design’s Cubitac brand also offers this door style naming it Madison. Cubitac describes their Madison door style this way:

With its simplistic design, the Madison, adds a touch of sophistication to any space. The reversed raised center panel complements the narrow shaker style profile for a stylish transitional cabinet design.

The Madison kitchen below is featured in three of the four colors that are presently offered. However more colors are on the way.

All three of the kitchens in this blog are great examples of how this new and popular skinny shaker door style can feel modern but avoid the stark and sometimes antiseptic look of a truly modern slab door style.
