Want to know how to create the perfect morning routine to feel your best self everyday? We’ve got you covered.

Mornings are the toughest time of day for us night owls, the sacrifice of your morning shower, that you desperately needed, for the sake of an extra five minutes in the pit, that seemed so worth it at the time. But what if I told you that creating a morning routine, or morning ritual, depending on how intense you want to go, can significantly improve your moods, productivity and overall well-being?

Starting your day with an effective and intentional morning routine, that fits your needs will leave you feeling more energised, focused on ready to face the day head on and here’s how…

Wake Up At a Consistent Time Everyday

One of the most important aspects of a successful morning routine is consistency. Waking up at the same time each day will regulate your body’s internal clock. Your body clock or your circadian rhythm as it’s also known, is guided by your wake up time, rather than your bed time!

Regulating your body clock takes time and adjusts over several days, just like jet lag takes time to recover from. Again, similar to if you’ve had a boozy night and got home in the early hours, you may experience ‘social jet lag’ the next evening.

The NHS, recommend 7-9 hours of sleep a night, depending on each person. This amount of sleep will help you function at your best.

Now, sorting out your bodies internal clock won’t make you feel like a brand new person but it will definitely help getting up early easier!

Mindful Moments

Taking a few minutes in the morning when you first wake up for moments of mindfulness will help ground you and bring your mind into the present.

What is mindfulness?

Mind UK defines mindfulness as ‘Mindfulness is a technique you can learn which involves noticing what’s happening in the present moment, without judgement.  You might take notice and be aware of your mind, body or surroundings. The technique has roots in Buddhism and meditation, but you don’t have to be spiritual, or have any particular beliefs, to try it.’

Mindfulness works by taking your focus away from negative thoughts and brings you into the present moment. You can do this through short meditation, deep breathing exercises or, simply lying in bed and concentrating on what you can hear & smell to bring you into the present moment and away from the daunting day you may have ahead.

Hydrate and Nourish Your Body

A healthy breakfast routine – What you put into your body every morning will determine your energy levels. Try starting your morning off with a glass of water, this will give you instant hydration. Try adding a slice of lemon for an added detox boost!

That’s not to say you can’t have your cup of tea or coffee! – we wouldn’t suggest such a thing! But a nice glass of water first thing can actually help improve your metabolism and lubricate your joints.

Prioritising a balanced breakfast with a mix of protein, fibre and healthy fats will give your body the fuel it needs to keep energy levels high throughout the morning – say goodbye to the mid-morning slump!

Refresh and Reinvigorate With a Morning Shower

Ensuring you have time for a shower in the morning is a great form of self-care. Ladies, we aren’t suggesting a ‘everything shower’ but a quick 4-5 minute body wash will leave you feeling more alert, cleaner and therefore more productive, as well as, washing away skin cell buildup.

Personalise your shower routine and make it an important morning ritual, a few minutes of you time; play your favourite music, or simply rinse away your troubles in silence if that’s what you need.

Skin And Self-Care Routine

Skin care is self care

Setting time for skin care might not seem like an important way to start your day but did you know that taking 5-10 minutes to look after your skin is great for your self-esteem and overall positivity. It’s an act of self-love and appreciation.

Dedicating time for your skin will help you feel your best. Cleansing, moisturising and using SPF are excellent ways to maintain healthy skin.

Gentle Exercise/ Movement

If a gym session is a complete no-go for you in the morning don’t be disheartened. Slow, gentle and steady movement in the morning can be just as effective. Yoga, a brisk walk or some light stretching will help boost endorphins, increase energy and enhance your focus.

Youtube or Tik-Tok have plenty of guided yoga and stretching routines for you to try!

Plan and Set Intentions for the Day

Set daily intentions

For some people journaling or setting ‘goals’ / ‘intentions’ for the day helps them prioritise and accomplish tasks. Reminding yourself what you want to achieve each day might be a massive help, or simply, writing some things down you are grateful or happy about could set the tone for the day!

Limit Technology In The Morning

No morning technology

Whether you’re aimlessly scrolling or checking emails, not going on your phone first thing is the best thing you can do for your brain. The rapid transition and information overload puts stress on the brain and has been linked to increase anxiety! – one to try and test myself!

Try and give yourself 15- 30 minutes before engaging with your phone and see the difference it can make to your morning routine!

Use the tech-free time to be mindful, grateful and kind to yourself!

Express Gratitude and Positive Affirmations

morning affirmations

Take a moment to reflect on what you’re grateful for and speak affirmations out loud. This practice shifts your mindset to a positive state, empowering you to approach the day with optimism.

For example:

‘I am more than capable of completing that project today.’

‘I am smart and successful.’

‘I am ready for whatever the day throws at me.’

A mindful morning bathroom routine isn’t just about grooming; it’s about self-care, grounding, and creating a positive outlook. By infusing your rituals with intention and awareness, you set the tone for a day of productivity, calmness, and confidence.
