Onion lights (named for their shape) were originally made for whaling ships and fishing boats. They are what I consider one of the quintessential nautical lighting designs for seaside areas (especially on Cape Cod!). I’ve always loved them. We had onion lights at our family beach house near Cannon Beach in Oregon and we’re adding them to our house here on an island in Washington!
I bought these two onion lights for the back of our home to go on either side of the new French doors.
Handmade or well-crafted onion lights can be so expensive, but you can definitely get a charming look for less.
