4 Tips To Help Pick The Perfect White Paint – Cozy White Paint Colors

White paint can be so hard to pick, but it can be fun to experiment & test in your own home too! You know I love white paint & over the years I’ve done a lot of studying of undertones, lrv [light reflective value], & how different white paint looks different room to room. I truly enjoy testing new paint colors & so I thought I would share some tips I use every time I go to pick out white paint. The color I’m using today in our front living room? It’s actually @behrpaintcolor of the year: blank canvas. As soon as I saw the announcement I knew I had to try it! It’s a warm white without being too yellow. It’s comparable to BM white dove to me & it’s totally warmed up the space already even though the room is far from being done. It was pretty dark today when I shot this, but stay tuned to my stories, blog, & feed for progress & more of this paint color. Here are a few shots I took of the paint half done in our living room yesterday & 4 tips to help you pick the PERFECT white paint color…

How to pick the perfect white paint for your home:

-study the undertones: hold a white sheet of paper to the swatch to see if it’s warm or cool toned & what the undertone color is.

-Decide if you want a warm or cool white. Cooler whites will have more blue undertones while warmer whites will have more of a yellow undertone. What goes with your existing decor?

-check the lrv: This tells you how much light the color reflects. The higher the lrv the brighter the white. Warmer whites will be in the 80 range while bright true whites will be closer to 100.

-Test the paint: Put large swatches on every wall of the room you are painting & live with the swatches for a while so you can study it in different lights.

I hope these 4 tips help you the next time you are picking out white paint colors. It can be a daunting task, but after a few times of practicing these 4 tips it should come more natural to you! Thank you for stopping by the blog today & every single day to see what we are up to. I will be back with more paint updates soon! xx
